This large scale necklace features nine crochet chrysanthemum blossoms in maroon, peach, and red that are sewn onto a 34” blackened and tumbled sterling silver chain with links that graduate from 1/2” to 1 1/4”.
This piece is the first in a series of works focused on merging fiber arts and crochet with more traditional jewelry methods. Here I am utilizing the color, sensitivity, and warmth of the crochet thread in conjunction with the strength and stability of the silver. By using these materials containing such opposite yet desirable characteristics, I am thus creating a jewelry piece representative of the most sought after personal attributes that one searches for within themselves as well as others.

I do believe that the combination of the wild imagination of my 3 year old daughter and the insane drive of her baby sister as well as my incredible desire to escape from the depressing reality of poverty and societal woes has driven me to seek new inspiration in the fanciful land of fairy tales and fiction. My spirit and my work are suffering as I dwell in this dark place so, I plan to launch them both into this rejuvenated mindset. I hope all will stick with me on this journey as I claw my way out of this pit of despair, pick myself up, dust myself off, regroup, and begin to grow and create again.
The show at the Center For Maine Craft comes down Oct. 1st. Any leftovers are getting posted on Etsy. I will also be posting some of my old resin pieces at great prices. It might take me a little while becuse I have to retake most of my photos since I lost nearly all of them in the great computer crash a few weeks ago. Stay tuned for sale postings. Also there is totally new work coming. New materials. Big. Bold. Beautiful. Again…stay tuned. ;)

Metalheads Redux is a diverse and dynamic group of artists involved in the Metalsmithing and Jewelry fields based out of Portland, Maine. The group was started three years ago by Maine College of Art alumna Holly Gooch, who desired a continued connection with fellow graduates. The exhibit brings a taste of diverse and dynamic work of many members of the group as well as “Dollar Menu” of fun “Fast Craft” items to purchase. The exhibit will be on display for the month of August.

An update on new work… I’m currently working on a series of crochet jewelry works setting stones and incasing other tiny crochet pieces under magnifing glass. These are simply the focal points or prototypes of for future pieces as of the moment.
